Omar Seerbiya: A Man who Preserved our Art
The collapse of the Somali Republic in 1991 led to a tremendous loss, including the loss of cultural heritage. Pre-1991, Somalia is famous for a sophisticated Art. Unfortunately, this rich art was lost. Nevertheless, there are individual heroes who strived to keep a record of the country’s rich art history. Among them is Mr. Omar Ali Hassan actually known as Seerbiya. For about a year now Mr. Omar Seerbiya have had lenghty discussions about the state of Art and Culture in post-conflict Somalia. I dedicate this story to him in honor of his extraordinary efforts to preserve our culture and art.
